Celebrate the Life and Work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This coming year is an important one as it highlights the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, 1968. It also celebrates the founding of the King Center on June 26, 1968.The theme established by the King Center is MLK50 FORWARD: TOGETHER WE WIN WITH LOVE FOR HUMANITY. This is also the theme of the Greeley celebration. In addition, the 2018 Black History Month theme, AFRICAN AMERICANS IN TIMES OF WAR is weaved into the Greeley celebration.
Celebrated on the third Monday of January, the King Holiday is a time when the nation pauses to remember Dr. King’s life and work. It also to honors his legacy by making the holiday a day of community service, “a day on, not a day off.”
